宁波是中国首批沿海对外开放城市、计划单列市和副省级城市，是重要的交通枢纽，是中国大陆唯一拥有三座跨海大桥的城市。2015年宁波舟山港货物吞吐量居全球港口首位，集装箱吞吐量跃居全球港口第四位。宁波国际机场是长三角经济区四大国际机场之一，已纳入到了大上海1-2个小时的城际交通圈。
Ningbo is one of the first batch of open coastal cities, cities with independent planning and sub-provincial cities, being major transport center in Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone. Ningbo is the only city with three cross-sea bridges in mainland China. In 2015, Ningbo Zhoushan Port ranked the first in terms of cargo handling capacity and the fourth in terms of freight volume in the world. Ningbo international airport is one of four international airports at Yangtze River Delta economic zone, the city Ningbo has been incorporated into Shanghai 1~2-hour intercity transportation circle.
宁波石化、钢铁、电力、汽车、船舶修造等临港大工业发达，纺织服装、机械、家电、文具等传统优势工业基础良好，电子信息、新材料、新能源、
新装备、节能环保、生物医药等新兴高新技术产业发展较快。宁波民营经济创造的GDP接近全市总量的80%。
Ningbo’s industry has undergone rapid development: its port-surrounding large-scale industries covering petrochemical industry, steel, electric power, automobile, and ship repair and building etc. is well developed; traditional industries with advantages in fields of textile and garment, machinery, household appliances and stationery has a good foundation. In 2014, Ningbo’s total industrial output value reached 1.7 trillion yuan and approximate 80% of the city’s GDP, which was produced by its private economy.
